Bander Basics

I really need to get back to basics.  My eating is not where it should be for a bander.  Last night, I ate a large roast beef sub with an order of french fries.  I mean, I eat slowly but I ate it.  I don't know what it is about roast beef subs but they are like my crack the last few months.

But enough of that.  Marc & I were talking about how we have gotten away from the basics, we looked for our binders from the clinic but couldn't find them.  I think I'm guilty of throwing them away in one of my cleaning frenzies.  Oops.

From what we remember, we are to eat 4oz of protein at each meal and follow that up with 1/2 cup of veggies.  Our clinic is a fan of the no carb thing which is so hard for me to do.  I need to strike a better balance though.  I know my clinic also says about 1 cup of food should satisfy for 4 hours.  That has never been the case with me.  Honestly, I feel like my hunger is never satisfied even when I had almost 10ccs in my band.  I have to really put my mind working when I'm hungry so I don't overeat.  I still also have the problem where I need to feel like I'm eating a good amount of food or my brain feels deprived, notice I say my brain, it's not always my stomach.

What guidelines do you follow?

I also need some meal ideas, especially breakfast.  I've been eating greek yogurt lately and I'm wondering if that is too much of a slider food.

I have my version of taco salad for lunch, 4oz of ground turkey with taco seasoning, shreddad cheese, black beans, taco sauce and sour cream.  Yum!  I know this is one of those very fill meals.  I am looking forward to it.  I need to start finding enjoyment in the food I eat, appreciating healthy ingredients, fresh fruit and veggies, you know?  I focus too much on what I shouldn't be eating instead of all the yummy stuff I can be eating.  Like the taco salad or even my lunch from yesterday, tuna with a goat cheese salad from Whole Foods.  Have you ever had that salad?  It's a small side salad, comes with fat free balsamic, goat cheese, mixed greens, dried cranberries and walnuts.  Let me tell you, it is highly satisfying and $2.50.  Well worth it!

I really need to start kicking butt again.  I did make an appointment for a fill, next Wednesday.  I'm a little nervous for it only because I don't want my restriction to be too much.   I think I'm just going to ask for a smaller fill and see how that treats me.

I am a carb lover too. We aren't supposed to eat carbs for the 1st 6 months according to my dr. Not as easy as is looks doc!

Did you send the secret bandit email? I didn't get it? I just wanted to make sure it's not lost in cyber space somewhere! :o)

I usually eat greek yogurt for breakfast too. I don't know what I'd eat if I didn't have that. I'd probably just skip it and eat lunch and dinner only.

I very seldom feel actual hunger. Isn't it weird how that is different for some people? I think that would make it harder for me.

I eat all the foods I ever did, just in much smaller quantities. Although I could take in too many calories by eating a bunch of sliders, I cannot physically overeat at one sitting. I would get sick. A large sub would definitely be too much. I know it is different for everyone, but if you don't experience that kind of restriction you should ask your doc about doing a fill under flouroscopy just to see what your restriction looks like.

I usually go with a frittata. Lots of good recipes out there and they heat up well (I rarely eat at home so I need something I can microwave at the office). I try to go with 1/2 c (by volume, not weight) of protein, 1/2 c of veg. Every now and then I add a grain or add more veg.

I usually try to get in 2 chobani yogurts a day so I can get the right amount of protein in. My stomach doesn't like protein shakes.

I might give your version of a taco a try. sounds ssooo yummy!

I eat two scrambled eggs in the morning for breakfast That keeps me satisfied for about 3-4 hours.

The biggest thing for me is tracking my food. When I do this, I plan ahead. I plan out my 1400-1600 calories per day the night before or the beginning of the day. As I eat things, I mark it off the list. I have found that works MUCH better than logging as I go.

I know that isn't what you asked, but it is something I found that helps, so I wanted to share. :)

I track my food including calories, fat, protein, and sodium. I measure everything so I know exactly how much I'm eating. Usually in the mornings I just have a protein drink because I'm not really hungry. I have turkey, cheese, crackers for dinner almost every night and a piece of fruit for a snack. You'll do great!

I mix in a cup or small bowl egg beaters, wedge of laughing cow cheese and jimmy deen's new turkey saugage crumbles and microwave. Yummy, filling and loads of protein. I have recently stalled in weight loss while on vacation....totally my fault and has been corrected. I jump started my weight loss with all liquids for a day. I did make sure that I got my protein shakes in and the next day I started losing and still am.....good luck my friend.
